► DESIGN PROCESS



TARGET DEFINITION

We designed a product based on the home-farm trend, focusing on Spirulina which is a natural seaweed recently considered as a “superfood”. Its use is growing so fast, as spirulina is now told “the food of the future” declared by FAO.  (128’000 t in 2016, +10% using every year).


From our research we defined our target segmentation and consequently our personas around three more promising segments:


︎︎︎ healthy workers

(use spirulina as dietary supplement)

︎︎︎ aid needers 

(use spirulina as medical replace)

︎︎︎ sport addicted

(use spirulina as nutritional supplement)







CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT 

We started the ideation with one big assumption: creating a brand-new type of electrical appliance.

Therefore we worked on the morphologic differentiation to what already exists among the kitchen appliances and we decided to link the new shape to the way spiruling is assumed (as a tab) in order to:

︎︎︎ educate people to a new type of appliances using semantic 

︎︎︎ hide junctions using VHB properties and designing a product with different materials which appear as a seamless body floating oven the kitchen counter.

ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT 



We estimated that the use of VHB tape instead of traditional assembling methods
will save 76.800 CO2 in 5 years (estimated production 3,2mln/5y).



BRAND IDENTITY AND FUTURE STEPS 

By designing a totally new product we had the opportunity to perceive it as a family, developing complementary products to serve similar applications of the technological system, and ultimately implementing the product usability. 

So we develop the following concepts:

︎︎︎ Ella; to grow Chlorella sea plant (a super food similar to spirulina)

︎︎︎ Lore; a desiccator designed to hold Lina and Ella filters in order to dry your harvested sea plants and turn them into flour.



A coordinated image trough the perfect naming and palette color, makes the appliances recognizable and iconic. The products have a fisrt name in order to characterize them and make these new and unknown products more familiar for the user.
